If you met people with Alzheimer’s, or, unfortunately, had someone in you family with this disease, you should know how incredible this video really is. Alzheimer’s disease, is one form of dementia, which leads to a loss of brain function, that gradually gets worse over time. It was first described by German psychiatrist and neuropathologist Alois Alzheimer in 1906 and was named after him. Most often, people over 65 get affected by this disease. As it advances, symptoms can include confusion, irritability, aggression, mood swings, trouble with language, and long-term memory loss. The cause and progression of Alzheimer’s disease are not yet well understood. Current treatments only help with the symptoms. There are no available treatments that stop or reverse the progression of the disease. To comfort Alzheimer’s patients at the facilities doctors use dog therapy. The animals decrease patients’ stress and depression, increase their physical and social activity and boost the mental stimulation.
